FAQs
What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is
closed?
Dr. Horst is always available when something happens. If it
is a true dental emergency and you cannot wait until normal
office hours, simply call our office and her emergency
number will be listed on our greeting message.
I have a temporary crown in my mouth. What happens if
it comes off or breaks?
Do not re-glue crown or crown pieces. Carefully wrap up the
crown (or pieces), place in a container, and call our office
to schedule and appointment for Dr. Horst to re-cement it as
soon as possible.
How can I have whiter teeth?
Bleaching is one of the most immediate, simplest, and safest
ways to improve the impact of your smile! If you would like
more information, come in for a bleaching evaluation to see
if you are a candidate for this procedure. The main causes
of stained teeth are soft drinks, tea, coffee, and smoking.
My gums bleed when I brush my teeth. Should I be
concerned?
Bleeding gums is never a good sign! Bleeding gums can be
caused by improper brushing such as rough scrubbing instead
of gentle, circular brushing technique, using a hard
bristled-brush instead of a soft one; plaque and/or tartar
build up below the gum line, or gum sensitivity due to
gingivitis or periodontal disease.
If your problem persists after correcting your brushing and
flossing techniques, or occurs every time you brush, it is
likely to be the result of some level of gum disease, and we
recommend you set up an appointment with Dr. Horst. Our
office specializes in helping patients arrest and
successfully treat all stages of gum diseases, through the
use of our excellent non-surgical gum care procedures.
My breath has terrible odor, even though I brush
everyday. What can I do about it?
Bad breath is actually very common even though most people
do not like to talk about it. How does it go away? Well that
depends on what is causing it. It could be as simple as
changing the way you brush your teeth and tongue or maybe
replacing some of the old dental work in your mouth. Our
office offers a breath management program called Breath Rx,
which contains ZYTEX, a unique and powerful complex that
fights bad breath. This kit contains mouth rinse,
toothpaste, tongue spray and 2 tongue scrapers. Call us and
set an appointment to determine the cause.
Do I really have to floss every day? Is it really
necessary to be so meticulous?
A little regular flossing goes a long way, and is truly
critical for your overall health. It loosens food particles
in tight spaces that your toothbrush cannot reach; it gets
rid of plaque build up that tooth brushing alone cannot
remove; and it exercises your gum tissues. All of which is
necessary to avoid gum disease.
I want my front teeth to look better, but I don’t want
to wear braces. Can you help me?
There are a number of ways to improve the look of your front
teeth. For slightly crooked or unevenly worn teeth, a little
reshaping may be all that is needed. If they are rotated or
crowded, a clear aligner such as Invisalign can be used to
straighten them out. For teeth that are really worn or
crooked or if the color is not perfected after bleaching,
then porcelain veneers may be the best choice for you.
Porcelain veneers is a thin leaf of porcelain that is
permanently cemented to your teeth. Our office offers free
consultation for Invisalign or Veneers.
What makes our office different from any other dental
practice you can visit?
You’ll never have so much fun in a dental office as you will
at ours. How do we know? Because we have fun! And, it is
contagious! We love turning plain, everyday expressions into
beautiful smiles. You’ll see real-life examples of theses
smiles in our operatory rooms.
